COWS PROGRAM: ONE COW PER POOR FAMILY

PHOTO-2019-09-23-22-05-57.jpg

Earlier this year, Charlette Adams generously donated 10 cows which were distributed to the most deserving members of the SACOLA community. Charlette wanted to create a “pay-it-forward” idea, that would see the recipients donating the first female calf to another member of the community, who in turn would do the same.
Charlette’s idea has inspired a movement, since those first set of 10 cows were donated, we have witnessed the generosity of others, including the couple, Debra and Rod, donate a cow to another member of the SACOLA community, with the “pay-it-forward” idea helping to see more beneficiaries of this generosity in the future. A ceremony was held, attended by the leaders of the SACOLA community, and Debra and Rod, as well as the manager of the Governor's Camp Sabinyo Lodge, Michael Hughes. There was great cheer all around and a beautiful day and moment was enjoyed by all. Charlette has in July donated another set of 10 cows, primarily to widows, empowering these women and their families to make better lives for themselves.

ECD LAUNCH

SACOLA focussing on ECD: Early childhood development, defined as the period from birth up to eight years of age, is a critical window of opportunity for a child’s cognitive, social, emotional and physical development.

The familial environment has a critical influence on child survival and development. Strengthening the capacities of primary caregivers to provide effective care and to stimulate child learning can greatly improve a child’s chances of survival and lead to optimal growth and development. When effective and responsive care by the primary caregiver is coupled with access to and use of quality ECD services, a child’s chances of flourishing and attaining an optimal level of development are greatly increased.

Children gather for the launch of the new ECD school in Nyarubande/Kinigi. SACOLA arranged for milk to be provided to the children in the morning to help their nutrition and growth.
